Before the help of scientific and archival analysis, for years this cabinet was thought to be a 19th century counterfeit of 16th century design.
While the designer of this cabinet remains unknown, the artistry on the front is probably based on engravings by Jacques I Androuet du Cereau or Hugues Sambin, both impressive Mannerist furniture makers in the late 1500s.
